Wall of Pain

Friends, Romans, countrymen…..

One Monday while trawling the interwebs for rugby related news, clips and pics, the EatSleepRugby team stumbled upon a picture of a sliced open ear, we posted it on our twitter feed and thought no more about it. However this tweet quickly received a reply of an even worse ear injury which we tweeted and posted on our Facebook page. The response was quite unexpected and #HorrificInjuryMonday was born. This was the picture:

Jamie Wicks from Cambrian RFC. (p.s. he apparently played a week later with scrum cap.) #nails

On the inaugural #HorrificInjuryMonday, we at EatSleepRugby received only 1 complaint about the content of the pics, nevertheless, Facebook decided that a picture of an ear hanging off someone’s head was inappropriate and requested it be taken down. We decided that in future we’d have more control over the images if we posted them to a permanent page on our own site that would pay tribute to the injuries inflicted on our favourite sort of people by our favourite sort of sport. EatSleepRugby is committed to Rugby, warts and all! So whether you were playing League, Sevens or Union, if you got injured and have a horrific photo of your injury, send it through to our #WallOfPain, let us know your club too so we can give them a shout out.

BTW we’re not one of those crappy clickbait sites where you click for every pic you see whilst avoiding clicking the adverts. We’re just Rugby lovers who want to share all things Rugby and by sharing this your helping us provide this free content . Click below to share this to your Facebook, Instagram or Twitter account to access the entire #WallOfPain.

Frankly I'm not sure if there are any as eyewatering as this 'Post Watershed' injury. Huge thanks to Tom Saltmer of Skirlaugh Bulls ARLFC for sharing....we think!? He writes "Playing rugby and someone pulled on the little fella."

Possibly the most upsetting in this week's Horrific Injury Monday is this pic of Andrew Wheeler from Wattstown RFC with a dislocated shoulder just one week before the Swalec Bowl final in the Millennium Stadium! (p.s. this is the second dislocated elbow we've had from Wattstown RFC!)

Have you ever seen Torsion of the Testicles, well you have now! Chris Sutherland of Blandford RFC writes: "Torsion of the bollock obtained by having a teammate come into the back of a ruck and gently knee me in the balls."

Welcome to Horrific Injury Monday! Dave Radband of Witney sent us this lovely montage including pics of him still on the pitch being administered gas and air! (Bonus points there!) "Broken fib and tib with a knee dislocation, broke my hand in the first 10 mins of the game, carried on playing with a tapped hand and broke my leg with 7 mins left in the game."

Preston Thompson, It was actually a try out for the GRU 7s (Georgia Rugby Union) all star team. Head to head, other guy didn't have a scratch. Made the team though and played every match the following weekend. #Nails

Many thanks to Shaun Bowden who gained this playing for Paignton RFC. "Got this after being stamped on a few years back. It split my ear right through the lobe 15 stitches. Decided to wear a scrum cap after this."

this one looks deep. Many thanks to Michael Ferret Douglas from Atherstone RFC who was punched at the back of a ruck and probably gave up the Salt & Vinegar crisps for a while.

Wylie Karpinski of Clansmen RFC in Edmonton, Canada, sent us this little beauty as part of our 'Horrific Injury Monday'. "Turned head as I went into contact, right into a guys mouth." We haven't seen pictures of the other guy's mouth yet though!

Tom Courtney of Chelmsford (Formerly of West Norfolk RUFC). His broken finger didn't stop him trying to play the last 15 minutes. Physio pulled him off after 10 mins (way hey) and they lost in the dying moments. ‪#‎gutted‬

Darroll Watts suffered this during what he describes as a 'monster try saving hit' during the fiercely contested Broadstreet 3rds v Stoke Old Boys 1st/2nds battle in Coventry. He assures us he played on regardless with his popped shoulder.
